Multi-Spatial Resolution Rainfall-Runoff Modelling—A Case Study of Sabari River Basin, India

One of the challenges in rainfall-runoff modeling is identification an appropriate model spatial resolution that allows streamflow estimation at customized locations river basin. In lumped modeling, not issue as variability accounted for, whereas distributed grid or cell can be related to but its application limited because large data requirements. Streamflow data-poor possible it challenging modeling. this context, semi-distributed offers a solution including and basins with less study, Hydrologic Engineering Center-Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) employed semi-distribution mode on six different resolutions. The was calibrated validated for fifteen three selected flood events, respectively, types, i.e., single peak (SP), double (DP)- multiple peaks (MP) Sabari River Basin (SRB), sub-basin Godavari basin, India. Calibrated parameters were analyzed understand hydrologic parameter context event aspects. hydrographs developed, various verification metrics scores calculated reference- calibration- scenarios. During calibration phase, median correlation coefficient NSE all 15 events configurations 0.90 0.69, respectively. estimated from suggest model’s ability simulate processes efficiently. Parameters obtained phase used generate ensemble basin outlet part validation. streamflows appeared realistic, both single-valued indicated good performance. results suggested better performance followed by finer resolution. Thus, study demonstrates method applied real-time forecast interior which are necessarily rich.
